Provide Gadgets, Internet Pack To Poor Students For Online Classes: High Court To Schools

Estelle Sidler

Not providing gadgets, internet to poor students for online classes is digital apartheid, the court said

New Delhi:

The Delhi High Court has directed private as well as government schools like Kendriya Vidyalayas or KVs to provide gadgets and an internet package to poor students for online classes, saying not doing so amounts to “discrimination” and creates a “digital apartheid”.

To separate such students from others in the same class due to non-availability of a gadget or a device would generate “a feeling of inferiority” that may “affect their hearts and minds unlikely ever to be undone”, the court said.

A bench of Justices Manmohan and Sanjeev Narula said if a school decides to voluntarily provide synchronous face-to-face real time online education as a method of teaching, “they will have to ensure that the students belonging to economically weaker section (EWS) or disadvantaged group (DG) category also have access and

Hands-Free Gadgets That Will Make Your Home Smarter

Estelle Sidler

Go totally hands-free with this selection of easy to operate gadgets to make your home truly smart.

It’s never been easier – or more affordable – to make your home environment a smart home environment. With so many of us locked down or working from home, it’s also a more highly desirable state of affairs, because if you’re going to spend even more of your time within your own domicile, it may as well be as nice as possible.

Where once setting up a smart home with hands-free gadgets mandated a visit from your local electrician and complex internal wiring, most smart home gadgets these days operate wirelessly and with the use of smart digital assistants from Amazon, Google or Apple, and frequently all three. It’s well worth checking the specifications for each gadget to ensure that it meets the digital assistant that you use, however.

For Apple users, that’s

Wyze expands gadget lineup with new headphones, thermostat, and video doorbell

Estelle Sidler

Gadget maker Wyze, best known for its series of low-cost security cameras, is expanding further beyond its core product line to include new devices in the audio and smart home markets. The company is announcing three new products today: a pair of over-the-ear noise-canceling headphones, a video doorbell, and a smart thermostat. Those join the company’s cameras, fitness band, and smart versions of various household appliances like a lock, lightbulb, and wall plug.

Much like how China-based gadget maker Anker used its USB charging line as a springboard into the broader consumer electronics business, Wyze is using its cameras and its extremely low prices as a way to fashion an entire family of branded products that now extend beyond just the smart home market.

And the prices for at least one of its new products are indeed competitive. The new Wyze Video Doorbell costs $29.99 and is available for preorder

How to measure how much power your gadgets are using — and wasting

Estelle Sidler

A common question I get asked relates to how I go about measuring power consumption for devices. Some people are coming at this from a perspective of pure curiosity, others are looking so save money, while an increasing number are concerned about their environmental impact.

I’ve been monitoring and measuring the power consumption of gadgets for many years now and the tool I use is the HOPI HP-9800 20A energy monitor. I picked mine up from eBay for under $50.

I first came across “the HOPI” (as I like to call it) when it was featured on the Big Clive YouTube channel (not familiar with Big Clive’s channel? If you’re technical, I highly recommend you check him out). The HOPI is a bit rough and ready, it has things I don’t like, and it’s not “certified” in any way, but I’ve found it to be very reliable and accurate.

Tim Cook will reportedly not unveil new iPhones until October

Due to the coronavirus, the event is being held online – like Apple’s developer conference in June – and will broadcast at 6pm UK time later today (10am locally in California).

You’ll be able to follow along on the Sky News website and app.

An invite sent to media from Apple has confirmed the title of the event as “Time Flies” – potentially a reference to the new Apple Watch 6, which is among the devices expected to be announced.

Alongside that, the iPad Air 4 could be making an appearance, but there are suggestions that the iPhone 12 won’t be announced this September due to

These Kitchen Gadgets Save Time and Add Awesome

Estelle Sidler

Some kitchen gadgets seem fun at first but quickly become nothing more than clutter. How often do you really use that popcorn machine, pasta maker, or fondue pot? Did you even remember you had a fondue pot complete with those little color-coded skewers?

Yeah, I rest my case.

But I actually don’t because there’s a lot more to say here. For every unused or underused kitchen appliance or gadget currently crammed onto your pantry shelves or tucked away in kitchen cabinets, there is at least one clever and handy device that you’ll actually use all the time once you get the hang of it or that will happily replace something you’re currently using.

Great kitchen gadgets go well beyond the “neat” factor and actually make your life easier and more enjoyable, as it pertains to cooking and eating, at any rate. Here today are the best kitchen gadgets you’ll be
