Wyze expands gadget lineup with new headphones, thermostat, and video doorbell

Estelle Sidler

Gadget maker Wyze, best known for its series of low-cost security cameras, is expanding further beyond its core product line to include new devices in the audio and smart home markets. The company is announcing three new products today: a pair of over-the-ear noise-canceling headphones, a video doorbell, and a smart thermostat. Those join the company’s cameras, fitness band, and smart versions of various household appliances like a lock, lightbulb, and wall plug.

Much like how China-based gadget maker Anker used its USB charging line as a springboard into the broader consumer electronics business, Wyze is using its cameras and its extremely low prices as a way to fashion an entire family of branded products that now extend beyond just the smart home market.

And the prices for at least one of its new products are indeed competitive. The new Wyze Video Doorbell costs $29.99 and is available for preorder

Gadget Expert Tests the Porsche Track Precision App, Is Impressed by the 911

Estelle Sidler

Fitness apps are all the rage these days as the lockdown has had tremendous impact on our regular lives, but how about something that’s designed to improve your skills while wrestling with the controls of a Porsche?! That’s the goal of the Porsche Track Precision app, a virtual trainer for a better, healthier, driver.

With the Porsche Track Precision app anyone owning a car from the Stuttgart-based automaker equipped with the Sport Chrono package can record on-board videos, store data about lap times and other car functions in a single place. Being a digital creation, the app enables easy but detailed analysis and sharing of the findings – and has a wide availability on both iOS and Android devices.

It seems that it can also double both as a GoPro-action type of camera, thanks to the smartphone’s native ability to record videos, as well as a proper coach – because

The $60 Desk Gadget Kim Kardashian Uses to Look Good On Zoom Calls

Estelle Sidler

As we usher in a new season this month, one thing is clear: Remote work is here to stay. Our focus is shifting from temporary adaptations (we’re looking at you, dining table–turned–office) to long-term ones. Yes, it’s time to buy that standing desk and, according to Kim Kardashian West, invest in good video call lighting. This week the reality star shared her setup on Instagram and called out the “best lighting for my Zoom sessions” as L3’s ZoomLite.

In the midst of product launches and the announcement that Keeping Up With the Kardashians is ending, West has also been studying to become a lawyer. And we all know how seriously she takes her reflection. So if she says the ZoomLite reigns supreme, we believe her.

The $60 gadget clips on to the top of your computer screen for “professional Hollywood lighting” and takes up zero desk space. It offers

The T.R.A.C.K. Suit, another secret suit, and the Gravity Well gadget.

marvel's spider-man miles morales

Pre-orders for PS5 are live now (even though the whole thing has been a bit of a dumpster fire), and alongside that, so, too, are pre-orders for the console’s launch titles. One of those is Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and if you’re wondering what the pre-order bonuses for the game are, those have now been revealed.

An image was recently uploaded to the game’s page on the official PlayStation site, and though it has since been taken down, a user on Reddit managed to snag it (you can take a look at it below). That and descriptions of the bonuses on the game’s Target listing detail what pre-order bonuses you can expect.

Those who pre-order the game will get early access to two suits and a gadget (which will presumably also be unlockable through gameplay for everyone else). There’s

Dr. Phil recalls Carroll Shelby’s race for the perfect golf gadget

Estelle Sidler

If you’re playing golf on Labor Day, you might think of race-car legend Carroll Shelby when you shank a ball into a water hazard.

Shelby — who was a dedicated member of LA’s exclusive Bel Air Country Club — invented other gizmos besides hot rods, and apparently spent much of his time on the links trying to concoct the perfect device for retrieving golf balls from the drink.

“I saw Carroll every day,” the late driver’s pal, Dr. Phil, told us. “We were really good friends. You know, he was Texan . . . I’m from Texas, and we were both members of the same club where we played golf. I met him there close to 20 years ago. He was a fun guy.”

The talk-show star added of his pal, “He was such an inventor! The most valuable club in my bag is the ‘ball getter’ . . .

Buy Or Sell: Steelers Will Use Ray-Ray McCloud As Gadget Player

Estelle Sidler

The offseason is inevitably a period of projection and speculation, which makes it the ideal time to ponder the hypotheticals that the Pittsburgh Steelers will face over the course of the next year, whether it is addressing free agency, the draft, performance on the field, or some more ephemeral topic.

That is what I will look to address in our Buy or Sell series. In each installment, I will introduce a topic statement and weigh some of the arguments for either buying it (meaning that you agree with it or expect it to be true) or selling it (meaning you disagree with it or expect it to be false).

The range of topics will be intentionally wide, from the general to the specific, from the immediate to that in the far future. And as we all tend to have an opinion on just about everything, I invite you to share

Kitchen gadget: Keep your tea hot

Like an electric kettle, it heats with heating coils and elements (Photo: ebay)

Any chance you are like me and cannot stand a lukewarm cup of coffee or tea? There are times I drink my coffee in a flash and other times I take my sweet time. When I am working, my coffee can stay forgotten for a while. Walking to and from the microwave to heat it takes too much time (call me lazy but when on a roll, a small distraction will break my momentum.)

I went shopping (online as is the current norm) and found the perfect gadget to keep my coffee hot and, best of all, while still in the cup. This beverage warmer is the easiest gadget to use. Like an electric kettle, it heats with heating coils and elements. However, you don’t have to pour your tea out of the

IMPRINT Theatreworks Presents THE IMPACT OF GADGET ON CIVILIZATION

Among playwright Mark Oristano’s earliest childhood memories is a photograph in his grandmother’s New York apartment. It was of Albert Einstein, inscribed to his grandfather, Herbert Maass, Sr., thanking him for everything he had done.

“My grandfather was a top Wall Street lawyer from the 20’s through the 50’s. But it wasn’t until long after he was gone that I learned he had been instrumental in both bringing Einstein out of Nazi Germany to the U.S., and building the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey, where Einstein spent the last part of his career.”

Having read a few of the thousands of books on Einstein, Oristano said he was struck by an idea.

“I always thought it amazing that we had this genius of geniuses in America, but he was not involved
